Rain

Rain
Keep me company
While I'm lonely
Parched
and Dry

Rain
Keep me green
Keep my eyes
A
Wet
Happy
Dry

Rain
Keep me still
Pitter
Patterin'
Into
Peace

Rain
Keep me alive
While
My soul's
Wanderings
Cease

Springtime

Who will sow a life complete
Deep burrowing into the ground?

Who will wait for
The Crashing Rains
To pound
And then unpound?

Who will tend the seedlings
Once their cheery heads
Spring up
Once their smiling buds
Dance in glee
In springtime's first sun up?

Who will patiently dream through winter
And hope and think and plan
Turning heart to frozen ground
Lying there
Vibrating there
In its itching to be dug, and tilled, and lanced?

Who will caretake and husband
The breathing, gritty, grainy clay
Smiling
Sighing
In its breasting
Of leftover bulbs
From last year's winter's day?

Evening Birds

Day sighs wearily
Evening falls gently
I dig my way from my car
Across this needle-pained sidewalk of exhaustion
To home's front door

Chirpy, happy birdsongs
Weaving thru golden rays
Fill my heart
Lift my head
"The joy of the Lord is my strength."

Keys fall on countertop
in perfect rhythm
with my humming
filling
thrilling
my hope-filled
mind
my feet catch up and
I dance in the kitchen
Over a giant pan
Of seasoned taco meat

Ol' Crow

Ol’ Crow
Nah nobody wah you ‘round ‘ere
Try so go fly away
Over de high-a-way

Stop peck, peck, peckin'
Enna hecklin’ ma spirit
Diggin’ claws inna ma shoulders
Dat burdened all along
Wid auddah tings lyk
Happiness ‘n Joy

Ol' Crow
Ya songs a mourningful
Nah gah no help fa ma soul
Nah gah no riddim fa ma feet
Ol' Hemingway sey
We cah be destroy
But nevah defeat

You see me 'ere now?
I gone clear
Up to de heavens now
Justa mi enna ma Jesus
Mi hear His love
So strong 'pon ma ear
